COVID Halts Holiday Train Display until January, 2021

IMG_8736.JPG

On December 10th, Governor Wolf issued “Temporary Mitigation Measures” that will go into effect Friday December 11th at midnight and remain in place until 8am on January 4th.

These measures includes museums, all in-person businesses in the entertainment industry, indoor restaurants and anyone servicing the public within a building or indoor defined area.

Unfortunately, this means the America on Wheels Museum (and our Holiday Trains Display) will remain closed until January.

Already in the works is a “Holiday Flash-back” themed event once the museum re-opens.

The display will remain set-up and ready for action in January.

Hope to see you then!!

2020 AOW Holiday Train Display Is Up and Running!

“Great!” “Even better than last year.” “My kids love to come every year.”

The layout features the same great creativity, in a slightly different design. We will ask people to walk (one way) around the entire perimeter of the display to see the trains from every angle!

Check out the photos below for the model railroad you love to see!
Below that are are images from the other displays in AOW this year.

Our large G Scale layout is on the second level, while a fantastic HO module is on the first floor near the entrance, and a LEGO train and a G Scale Thomas are in the first floor North Gallery. As an added treat, four very large scale rail cars are on display on the second floor next to our LVGR trains!

On Friday November 6th, Members of the Lehigh Valley Garden Railroaders, along with our fantastic friends from AIrPro, brought all of the track, felt, buildings, and display materials up to the second floor room where we annually set out our G-Scale layout.

Thank you to all who help set up, run (and take down) this annual fun display!

Updated move and build schedule for the AOW Holiday Train Exhibit

This Thursday November 14th we can begin moving all of our equipment from storage up to the display room at 12:00 noon. Will give us plenty of time to get everything upstairs and somewhat organized for the build.

If anyone is interested, maybe we can get together before we start and grab some lunch somewhere?

Friday the 15th, the Air Products group will join us at 10:00 am and we can begin construction of the layout. Felt, platform, track etc.

Any and all help is appreciated both days.

If you can’t make it Thursday or Friday, I’m sure we’ll be there all day Saturday and Sunday as well.

15th Annual Pioneer Apple Fest

We’ll be setting up for the Apple Fest at Ontelaunee Park on Friday afternoon starting around 3:00. We’ll have the live steam platform that doesn’t take much to bolt together and level-up.

We’re located right next to the train station.

Most of the day Saturday we’ll be running the Live Steam engines; in between as long as we have power we can run electrics.

Plan on being up there about an hour and a half before opening at ten on Saturday morning to get things ready.

DATE CHANE FOR MUMMEY OPEN HOUSE - NOW SUNDAY 9-15

Frank Mummey’s open house this weekend.

"Due to the thunderstorms forecast for Saturday afternoon, we are opting to use the Sunday (Sept 15) rain date for our "Open Yard" outdoor train display visitation.

The time period will now be 1 - 4 PM.

Both solid and liquid refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon”.

Frank says they will have 6 loops (inc. one trolley line) running on a mid-50s to mid-70s themed layout, and possibly 2 additional loops running on a secondary late-1800s western themed layout.

Their address is 4837 S. Cypress Dr. Walnutport 18088. This is just off of Route 248 (Lehigh Drive).

Here’s a peek at Frank and Cheryl’s layout.

Photos from Bethlehem Rose Garden Farmer's Market Sept 7th

LVGR set up a small display at the Bethlehem Rose Garden Farmer’s Market on a beautiful September 7th.

Lynn and Paul laid down a large loop in the lawn among vendors, while Barry and Lynn took the clean up shift.

It was enjoyed by young, old(er), and some furry friends.
